Nitro Engine Starting Equipment

Pull Start Nitro Engines and Non Pull Engines

A pull start nitro engine uses a mechanism similar to a lawnmower to start the engine.  With a non-pull nitro engine, you'll have to start your kit with a starter box or some other type of engine starter like the cool new Roto-tech starter made for the Genesis monster truck.

The pull start nitro engines cost around $20 more, but you don't have to buy an expensive $80 starter box and batteries to power it... plus it's less equipment you have to carry around to run your vehicle. With a pull start engine equipped nitro rc car or truck, you just take the kit out, attach the glow plug heater, pull on the starter, and you're ready to go!

The benefits of a starter box are that it saves the tiny bit of extra weight from the pull starter and it makes starting a little easier if the engine isn't tuned right or broken in yet. However, most people start with a pull start engine and you can always upgrade to a starter box later on.
